Story 1: The Fair Garden Game

1. Story — Text-Based (Day 1-2: Imagination Studio)
Read this with NO pictures first. Child becomes illustrator. 25 sentences. Already taught terms (sensor, data, dataset, pattern) can be used to build story, 8 NEW terms introduced: Unfair, Fairness, Equity, Inclusion, Exclusion, Justice, Unbiased, Impartial — NEW not in Vol1/Vol2.
Lina and Umar are in the community garden.
The garden has a watering bot with a sensor that feels moisture. A sensor is an eye that feels moisture.
The bot saves what it sees as data and many notes make a dataset basket. A dataset is like a basket of notes.
Lina looks at the basket and sees many tall tomato pictures and few small carrot pictures.
The bot finds a pattern that says tall plants get water and small plants do not. A pattern is when same thing happens again and again.
Umar checks the carrot bed and the soil is dry and cracked.
Lina says that is unfair. Unfair is when some get a lot and some get little without a good reason.
The basket has bias because it has more tall pictures, and bias makes the bot favor tall plants.
Fairness is being right and kind to everyone and thinking about what each needs. Fairness is the idea of being right and kind.
Equity is a kind of fairness that gives what each needs to grow, not just the same amount. Equity is giving what each needs.
The bot forgot about inclusion. Inclusion is making sure everyone is part of it.
Without inclusion comes exclusion. Exclusion is leaving someone out.
The garden needs justice. Justice is fixing what is wrong so everyone is treated right.
An unbiased bot does not take one side. Unbiased is not favoring one kind.
An impartial bot looks at all plants the same way. Impartial is treating all without favor.
Lina and Umar add more carrot pictures to the basket and teach the bot to be unbiased and impartial.
They check that water is even for all needs and that inclusion replaces exclusion.
The bot waters with fairness and justice now.
All plants grow together and all families share the harvest.
