How Game – How AI Learns, Predicts & Helps | Kids 4-8

How Does AI Work? is the foundational “How it works” workshop for AI Pre-Literacy ages 4-8.

This AI pre-literacy game uses ONE BUTTON—Parents Clue. When you tap Parents Clue, you instantly see 3 boxes + a visual chip inside the same card:

• 💬 SAY THIS TO YOUR CHILD (scripted)
• 🎯 ACTIVITY TOGETHER (do it)

Done steps turn green with ✓. After 8/8: Long celebration + trophy showing all 8 terms.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the game, the child and parent will understand:

A. 8 Core AI Mechanisms (HOW):

• LISTEN — How AI hears you (speech-to-text, wake word)
• LIBRARY — How AI reads so much (training data = huge library)
• NEURON — How AI thinks inside (artificial neurons connected)
• PRACTICE — How AI gets better (training loop, iteration)
• SEARCH — How AI finds answers (search / retrieval / embeddings)
• MIX — How AI mixes ideas (generative mixing: cat + astronaut = space cat)
• TEST — How AI checks if right (test dataset, accuracy, safety)
• HELPER — How AI works WITH you, not FOR you (Helper model, copilot, agency)

B. Thinking Habit:

• Replace “AI is magic” with “AI LISTENS, READS, PRACTICES, SEARCHES, MIXES, TESTS”
• Understand Helper vs Replacer — YOU stay boss.

C. Parent Skill:

• Use one-line scripts to explain AI without jargon, plus 30-sec activity per term.

How to Play

Time: 10-12 minutes for all 8, or 1 step per day (1.5 min each).

Step 1—Open a HOW: Tap any step header e.g., 1 🎧 LISTEN — How does AI hear you? It expands (arrow rotates ▶️ → ▼).

Step 2—Single Button: Inside you see bold question + small “How does AI hear you?” + button 👩‍👧 Parents Clue

Step 3—Learn Inline: Tap Parents Clue—it opens RIGHT THERE (no popup):

• Visual chip: e.g., 🎤 → 👂 → 💬
• 🧠 Yellow box: technical but simple explanation for you
• 💬 Green box: exact sentence to say to child
• 🎯 Blue box: do-together activity (act out listening, library walk, neuron chain)
• Button ↑ Hide Clue to close

On open: 12 mini confetti burst, bubble says “Great! You learned HOW LISTEN works! 🎉” Progress: 1/8 → 8/8 fills.

Step 4—Next: Tap next header. Already done steps are green with check.

Step 5—Finish: At 8/8, Trophy pops: “HOW Workshop Complete!” Grid shows 8 terms. Play Again / Home Buttons.
