Story 9: The Tiny Helpers Inside the Tablet

Garden lab — inside the model day · 8 AI words one per day · AI Pre-Literacy

1. Story — Text-Based (Day 1-2: Imagination Studio)

Read this with NO pictures first. Child becomes illustrator.

Lina asks, “What is inside tablet that learns?” Omar opens blueprint.

Inside there is an algorithm. An algorithm is steps like a recipe — first look, then sort, then guess.

The recipe is made of tiny lights called nodes. A node is a tiny helper bulb that can glow.

Nodes hold hands. Together they make a network. A network is many nodes holding hands like friends.

Network has stacks called layers. A layer is a stack of helpers — bottom sees edges, top sees leaf.

Some leaves are more important. That importance is weight. Weight is how strong a signal is — thick line means important.

When leaf picture comes, nodes send signals. Signal is a message passing from node to node — “pointy? green?”

The tablet does inference. Inference is using what it learned to guess now — “I think MANGO!”

When wrong, it does an update. Update means changing weights to get better next time.

This is what you just read, now you can see it.

3. What is the purpose of this Image 1?

Purpose: To ANCHOR what child imagined — true AI vocabulary.

Shows Lina and Omar opening tablet like a garden box. Inside: ALGORITHM recipe card with steps, NODE tiny glowing bulbs, NETWORK bulbs holding hands, LAYERS as stacked garden shelves (edges → leaf), WEIGHT thick vs thin lines, SIGNAL dotted messages pointy? green?, INFERENCE speech “MANGO!”, UPDATE wrench turning weights. All inside sunny garden lab blueprint.

Use Day 3-4: Where is algorithm recipe? Where are nodes? Where is network holding hands? Where are layers? Where is weight thick line? Where is signal message? Where is inference guess? Where is update fixing?

Purpose: To CREATE a new story — true AI inside.

Shows close-up inside tablet: ALGORITHM scroll with 1-2-3 steps, NODES as glowing garden bulbs, NETWORK as string lights holding hands, LAYERS as 3 shelves (edges → shapes → leaf), WEIGHT dials thick/thin, SIGNAL dots zooming pointy! green!, INFERENCE big bubble MANGO!, UPDATE hand turning weight dials better.

Use Day 5: What algorithm steps would YOU write? How many nodes in your network? How many layers? Which weights are thick? What signals pass? What inference? What update would make it better? Draw your own tiny helpers inside.
